INTRODUCTION
Hello, I am Namatende Zainab. I started being interested in cybersecurity in my second year of University as I was pursuing my Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. This was as a result of the programming course unit we did in my second year, second semester.
At the beginning, it started out as looking for programming tutorials. The more I practised, the more interested I was in programming and the possible careers I could pursue with the skill. Amongst the careers I came across was cybersecurity, this compelled me into pursuing a Certificate in Fundamentals of Cybersecurity, in order to quench my curiosity.
After successfully completing my certificate, I continued participating in various cybersecurity activities such as webinars, hackathons and posting about them on LinkedIn. Early this year, I was invited by Lateral Connect via LinkedIn to participate in their Mentoring Programme, which has enlightened my journey in the best way possible.
PROGRAMME EXPECTATIONS
I aim to improve my knowledge through the Comptia Security+, ISC2 for Cyber security training and to also further enhance my practical skills through labs under the guidance of cybersecurity professionals. I would also like to build and expand my professional network.
WHAT THE PROGRAMME MEANS
This programme means that I get the chance to interact and learn from some of the industry professionals. It also encourages me to continuously share cybersecurity knowledge with different people who are trying to find their way into this field.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, being a mentee of the Lateral Connect Mentoring Programme is the best and fastest way to achieve your career goals, not only will you be guided strategically by industry professionals, you will also be surrounded by people who want you to win as much as you want to win.
