Experience/Success story videos

  • Throughout the 5-month program, we ask each mentee to create a video every month to document their journey with the Lateral Connect programme. A minimum of 2 videos is required – one at the midpoint of the course and a final success story video at the end. These videos will help you reflect on your progress and inspire others on their path.
  • Content guidelines:
    • A brief introduction about who you are
    • An overview of your experience with the programme and how you feel now that you’ve completed it – do you feel ready for the cybersecurity industry?
    • If you’ve already secured a role, talk about what and how you felt what you learnt in the programme contributed to your success
    • Example content you can use & customise – impactful sentences:
      1. “This program transformed my career from novice to certified professional.”
      2. “The mentorship and hands-on training gave me the confidence to tackle complex challenges.”
      3. “I successfully transitioned into cybersecurity and landed a dream job in just six months.”
      4. “The program provided me with the practical knowledge and support needed to achieve my goals.”
      5. “Thanks to this program, I turned my passion for cybersecurity into a successful career.”
    • Monthly Rehash Example:
      1. Month 1: “I laid a strong foundation by learning essential cybersecurity concepts and working closely with my mentor.”
      2. Month 2: “I delved into advanced topics and gained hands-on experience through practical exercises.”
      3. Month 3: “I applied my skills to real-world scenarios and collaborated with peers on projects.”
      4. Month 4: “I prepared for certification exams and engaged in mock interviews to refine my skills.”
      5. Month 5: “I successfully completed the program and secured a rewarding role in cybersecurity.”
  • Self-recording guidelines:
    • Setting up the Scene
      1. Choose an appropriate location to record – look for a well illuminated space, preferably close to a window or natural light
      2. Avoid echoing spaces and try to minimise background noise
      3. Choose a clean and neutral background with few visual distractions
    • Setting up the Camera
      1. Place your camera at eye level on a levelled and stable surface to avoid camera movement
      2. To make sure your face is framed well, place the camera at an arm’s distance away
      3. When recording with a smartphone, always put it in landscape orientation
    • Preparing your content
      1. Focus and structure what you’re going to say, take notes if you find it helpful
      2. To make you feel more comfortable, practice talking to the camera and imagine you’re talking to someone you know
      3. Watch the practice recording and think how you can improve it
    • During Recording
      1. Sit or stand with good posture, with your back straight and keep your shoulders relaxed
      2. Have calm and open body language with a relaxed expression
      3. Look at the camera at all times
